Make a referral

To ensure we provide a safe, ethical and appropriate service, we work within our team’s training and qualifications as a non-medical, primary care service. In some cases, we may not be the right support at this time and would encourage you to make an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral to a more appropriate service. We are not the right service if you:

  • Are under 16. Our children and young people's counselling is only open to certain referral partners.
  • Have a severely low weight (a BMI of below 17.5).
  • Are purging through self-induced vomiting more than once on a daily basis.
  • Are Type 1 diabetic and are using insulin to manage weight and restriction.
  • Are eating less than a meal a day, have consecutive days without eating, or eating less than 800 calories a day for two months or more.
  • Only have supplement drinks and haven't eaten any solid food for two months or longer. EDNE would not be appropriate as we are a short-term counselling service.
  • Are experiencing a mental health crisis. We are not a crisis service, and we would encourage you to contact the relevant crisis service.
  • Have experienced significant trauma and haven't had any type of trauma therapy. We would encourage you to access this support first.

EDNE can and will make reasonable adjustments to our services wherever possible to be inclusive and support access to our services. This can be discussed as necessary. All referrals are subject to initial assessment to determine needs, suitability and risk.

Not sure if this applies to you?

We understand it can feel overwhelming to work out what support is right. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re unsure whether EDNE is the right place—we’re here to talk it through and help signpost to appropriate services if needed: enquiries@edne.org.uk

Due to extremely high demand for our service which has led to increased wait times we are pausing incoming referrals to our counselling service temporarily.

We do not take this decision lightly but are aware that long waiting times are not helpful for people when they are in distress. We will be reviewing waiting times on a monthly basis and will reopen as soon as we can.

We are accepting referrals for group and family and friends services.
If you need support while are services are paused, please contact your GP.
