We have the below exclusion criteria to help us work within our competencies, qualifications and training, to ensure we provide a safe and ethical service and to work within the parameters of our service as a non-medical, primary care service. We may not be the right service for you if you:

• Have a severely low weight (a BMI of below 17.5). We would encourage an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral to a more appropriate service.
• Are purging through self-induced vomiting more than once on a daily basis.  We would encourage an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral to a more appropriate service.
• Are Type 1 diabetic and is using insulin to manage their weight and restriction. We would encourage an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral to a more appropriate service. 
• Are eating less than a meal a day, have consecutive days without eating, or eating less than 800 calories a day for 2 months or more, counselling would not be appropriate right now as you won't not be able to engage in the counselling process. We would encourage an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral to a more appropriate service. 
• Only have supplement drinks like Ensures and haven't eaten any solid food for a two months or longer. EDNE would not be appropriate as we are a short-term counselling service. We would encourage an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral to a more appropriate service. 
• Are experiencing a mental health crisis as we are not a crisis service. 
• Have experienced significant trauma and haven't had any type of trauma therapy. We would encourage you to access this support first as if we work on the eating distress, we run the risk of destabilising you.
• EDNE can and will make reasonable adjustments to our services wherever possible to be inclusive and support access to our counselling service. This can be discussed as necessary.

All referrals for EDNE counselling are subject to initial assessment to determine needs, suitability and risk.
