  • 81% felt pressured to look a certain way
  • 85% felt the pressure to look a certain way came from themselves
  • 85% compared their body to those of others
  • 79% compared their body to their friends
  • 86% had gone on a diet/followed a specific eating plan to change the way they looked
  • 92% had felt upset or distressed by their body image
  • 94% felt positive body image should be promoted in schools
  • 94% felt positive body image should be promoted online

We have created a package of talks called ‘Roads to Resilience‘ which is being delivered to secondary schools in the North East.

‘Roads to Resilience‘ is a range of interactive talks which aims to increase the emotional resilience of young people who face multiple disadvantages and help prevent the onset, or further development, of mental health problems.

Examples of the talks include:

  1. My Armour – Designed to strengthen emotional resilience and understand how to ‘bounce back’ during difficult times.
  2. Me & My Eating Disorder – Designed to help identify the early warning signs, symptoms and triggers of an eating disorder.
  3. Living for Likes – Designed to explore the impact social media is having on our mental health.
  4. Body Positive – Designed to help people realise their beauty, purpose, and the joy of living with a unique body.

To find out more or to book a talk, please contact our Training Officer Maria Lavelle at maria.lavelle@edne.org.uk or call 0191 221 0233 (Maria works Wed-Fri).

What you say

GP

In the end we thought: ‘Wow’. It had helped us to feel the feelings. The content was fabulous. It’s the only training I’ve been on where we learnt from what we did, not the notes that we took.

Social Worker

The session does come back to me, even two years down the line, because of the quality of the training

School Nurse

Wealth of information and excellent trainer

Charity CEO

I’d put the session at the top of all the training we’ve had from the statutory and voluntary sectors. This was the best and made the most difference in our working knowledge

Mental Health Nurse

I have been a health professional for twenty years and I learned something in this session. This training is second to none. Very high quality

Young Person

After the talk I realised I needed help and spoke to my Teacher

I’ve really appreciated the help I’ve been given at EDNE, I didn’t feel like I was just there as a client who just needed to get to the end of their sessions. I actually felt heard and understood.

As a small charity, we rely on the amazing generosity of the public to allow us to continue our work. Every donation is noticed and appreciated, and allows us to really make a difference in someone’s life – by helping to provide specialised one to one counselling sessions to people who would otherwise not be able to access them, run our support groups, and provide training so people can spot the signs of eating distress and help others seek the support they need as early as possible. We use Local Giving as our donation platform, and any contribution enables us to continue providing our supportive services for people struggling with anxiety around food
