Talks

We deliver educational talks on eating disorders to young people and professionals from education, health, charity and the private sector.

Our talks increase knowledge and understanding of eating disorders and encourage first steps towards treatment and recovery.

They can be delivered online or face to face at your organisation or school/college and aim to help you:

  • Recognise signs, symptoms, and potential triggers of an eating disorder
  • Identify what support is available for someone with an eating disorder
  • Increase knowledge of available support services

How the talk helped

Molly (15) knew her relationship with food was dominating her every thought, but thought it was normal. The day Maria from Eating Distress North East came into school to deliver a talk on eating disorders changed Molly’s view and life forever. The talk helped Molly understand that she in fact had an eating disorder, which was controlling her and draining any sign of happiness from her life.

Molly approached a teacher after the talk and asked them to contact her Parents as she knew she was suffering from an eating disorder. On arriving at the School Molly’s parents admitted they knew there was a problem but did not know how to start the conversation. They expressed their gratitude and felt the talk had started the conversation they were struggling to have. They took Molly straight to their GP who referred her for specialist help.

One year on and Molly has made a full recovery and is due to start college to begin her training as a Mental Health Nurse. Molly knows that she needed help to recover and now wants to help others in their recovery,
